THE STORY BEHIND BEACH PEBBLES
They started as a few “private” pieces to express the joy I feel at the beach. Short, pretty, with nothing to prove. I gave them titles like Seagulls, Bodysurfing, Sandpipers. Then I found myself writing more and more of them, while at the same, continually revising the earlier ones, never satisfied. This went on for years; it got ridiculous. Then recently, something shifted and the whole collection started to feel finished. Now I’m ready to share them, realizing that what I’ve been after was to capture in my own voice the child’s view of beauty and wonder in the spirit of Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen and Felix Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words.
